Matters of the Heart: A Deep Dive for 2025

Image
As I have been praying about the new year—I contemplated some of the matters of the heart I have dealt with the past several years and what I wanted to pass down to my children and grandchildren.  I thought of these life reminders to help them live with more “peace” and less “chaos and stress”.   Grow where you are planted.   If you don’t like where you are, try to keep in mind nothing is ever permanent. Make a difference where you are- while you are there.  Be productive.     Real plants can’t grow if you surround them with fake plants.  This past year, I did what I’ve seen a few others do: I tucked some brightly colored artificial plants in with some real plants in a couple of pots that I had outside.  They looked great!  But I soon noticed the real plants withering.  I added more water.  I waited. In a few weeks, the real plants had completely died from the outside to the soil!  Something in the plastic caused serious ...

I Prayed for You

Image
On October 25th, of this year, I had been praying in my prayer time, and the Holy Spirit gave me a word that I wrote out in my prayer journal.  I found it again this morning, feeling prompted to pull that particular book open- as tears filled my eyes--it spoke afresh to me this morning.  I feel like there is another who needs this word this morning: "For I, the Lord God, am your everlasting Provider.  There is nothing that I cannot supply.  Your trust is secure in Me.  I do not fail.  I have called you and will keep you.  Do you understand how I had all these things already in My sight?  I knew you before you were born.  I have already equipped you with the necessary weaponry to fight any battle--use what you know.  I am FAITHFUL.  Don't forget all I have already brought you through." In all my years of walking with God, I have learned that HE is always faithful.  We will go through battles and times when we feel are the deepes...

'Tis the Season--for OVERCOMING

Image
"The way to overcome what overwhelms you is to get a picture of yourself not as you see yourself, but as God sees you. God does not see you defeated. God does not see you bound. God does not see you as poor and broke. He does not see you as walked on and kicked by life. God sees you as an overcomer. God sees you as the head and not the tail. God sees you as blessed and highly favored. God's way of bringing victory into your life is to show you yourself--not the way you see yourself but the way HE sees you. You may think you were, are and will always be depressed. You may see yourself as having to battle with limited or less than. BUT this is not what God sees. He has different information about you." ( Jentezen Franklin , Overcoming When You Feel Overwhelmed, page 84.) . (YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK) Our small group is reading this book, and again, God chose it at the perfect time for us. This is the season--when things around us seem to be going haywire- or blear...

The Change of a Lifetime

Image
Have you ever considered the timing of the miracles in your life? The ones that you know - without a doubt - are bonafide miracles from God.  The  "eleventh-hour"   kind.  The   "just in the nick of time"   kind.   There is nothing about our miracles and the timing that is happenstance.  Every detail of our lives is perfectly planned out and orchestrated according to God's timing... Let's visit with two women in the Bible who have unique miracle stories...both involving a baby--miraculously born--at a very unexpected time in both their lives:  Sarah and Elizabeth.   Since day one of marriage, I am sure they both dreamed of holding their own babies in their arms--nursing and protecting the little hoped-for infants.  But as the years for both women rolled on by and all their friends' homes were filled with midnight crying infants, the homes of Sarah and Elizabeth remained utterly silent, save for the steady breathing and possible snor...

Chances are....

When the wood for the feeding trough was fashioned together by hands that knew there was a need for something to feed animals—chances are he didn't think beyond the immediate need.   If the innkeeper/stable owner didn't make it himself, he purchased it from a carpenter.  Whoever made it, never in a million years would have dreamed that those pieces of wood would have the ability to be a bed for a king.  Never.  Kings slept in opulence.  No silks or linens too fine or grand for the bed of a king.  But this would be no ordinary king.  This king didn't come demanding or expecting to be treated like royalty.  This king came needing to be fed, held and loved.   When the exhausted and worried looking man and his oh-so-pregnant young wife showed up--looking ever much the weary traveler, his initial thoughts were not to offer the stable.  Chances are, until he looked into the eyes of the desperate, he didn't think beyond his lack of provision. ...

All the Way Home

Image
Home is a sanctuary for me.  I wrote about my childhood home a few years ago.  My mother taught us how to make our homes a haven of rest and peace.  It's a place where I have intentionally made it so.  From furniture placement, to lamps, books, and even the pictures on the walls.  But the most important and even critical part of the feeling of sanctuary and peace in my home comes from the time spent in prayer.  No amount of furnishings, or even cleaning can replace the feeling of walking into a home that has been thoroughly saturated in prayer.  Has it always been so?  Nope.    But trials and crisis of life made it imperative.   We are at that place in life again.   Where prayer and seeking the wisdom of God, spending time in the Word is the only source of strength we know for sure will stand.    It’s hard when you reach the age we are, and realize—what you thought your life would look like at near-retirement age is ...

The Broad Way and Fruitless Tree

Image
There is a passage in the Bible that has been running through my brain for several days now:   Matthew 7:13-14   “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate . The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way.   But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it .  (emphasis mine) "The highway to hell is broad."  It's broad because we live in a world where we are so caught up in the next big thing. There's a rush to get it or do it.  Whatever the biggest influencer is influencing you to do, buy, or be, that's the goal for many.  But that should not be what the Christ Follower is influenced by.  We should be leaning on God for direction in our daily walk.   I'm not talking about which shirt you should wear today.  Don't be ridiculous.  No, there are places He has assigned you to be and work and we often choose whichever one is the eas...

Your Testing Ground

Image
Have I told you my story yet?   You're probably like, "Angie, you have told me SO much, I'm not sure which story you are talking about! :) When I heard about you and what's going on in your life, I felt like there were some nuggets from my own story that might help you this morning (or evening-whenever you find yourself reading this). Sometimes I find myself holding back -- well, being transparent, I do hold back at times.  But this morning, I wanted to share it all.  I only like good surprises.  If I know what I'm up against, I can be better prepared to handle what's coming.  Well, life doesn't work like that.  Only God holds our story.  Only He knows what's in the book.  From the day you and I were born until the day we draw our last breath--He knows ALL the stuff in between.  So trust me when I say...there is nothing He can't handle.  And He will walk you through ALL the things you would rather be delivered out of.  Sometimes He ...
